HEALTHY, HAPPY HIPS
January 13, 1-3pm
Yoga Tune Up®: Happy, Healthy Hips
Finding balance to relieve pain and discomfort in the hips and low-back.
Most injuries, pain and discomfort are the result of imbalance in the body. Sometimes we literally lose our balance and fall, causing an injury. But more often, our lifestyles, and sometimes even the genetic structure of our bodies, can lead to imbalances in strength and flexibility. Over time, these imbalances can lead to pain and discomfort throughout the body. In relation to the hips, imbalance often results in “tight” hips and low-back pain.
In this workshop, we will work to understand balance as it relates to the hips. The hips are a major crossroads in the body, serving as the attachment point for many different groups of muscles, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, hip flexors, glutes, adductors and abductors. Because so many muscles attach to the pelvis, there is a lot of opportunity for imbalance to arise.
Students can expect to leave this workshop with:
A greater understanding of the anatomy of the hips and common patterns of imbalance
Relief from areas of chronic tension and knowledge of self-care techniques
Increased awareness of your body and techniques to improve whatever form of exercise you practice, including yoga, walking, running & cycling.
*Note: All levels are welcome. No experience with yoga or massage balls needed. All props will be provided. Tight clothing is recommended for use with therapy balls.
